Giving Back: MiddleHaven
Where do you go when you’re down, stuck, frustrated, and confused? Who listens to you when you need to say out loud what’s eating at you inside? Who supports you when you don’t want someone else to solve your problem, but you do want help to generate your own solutions? Who understands your world and offers you coaching and mentoring on your terms?
I was fortunate. As an IT manager and exec, I had my husband and business partner. He has excellent listening skills and knows not to try to solve my problems for me. He’s great at leading me to my own solutions and respects my need for confidentiality. I was fortunate to also have several associates whose ears and ideas were very helpful when reality was upon me.
I tried to offer the same to the managers and professionals in IT organizations I managed. Over my career, I learned the hard way that most often, people didn’t want me to solve their problems. They knew they could figure it out for themselves if they could have support to face reality; without judgment, without having to pretend, in safety and confidence. And I learned I could trust them to do just that - solve the problems if I supported them.
Now Wayne and I offer this service to IT professionals all over the world. We call the service MiddleHaven. Sometimes we meet with the IT professional in our offices. We consult with other professionals over the phone, via e-mail or in a location of their choosing. Some clients prefer to meet regularly every two weeks or so. Others call for an appointment when the need arises. Some prefer the Fireside Chat group discussions.
MiddleHaven started as a way for me to give back to IT professionals some of what was so helpful for me. From the interest and feedback I’ve received, I’m finding the service strikes a chord with many IT professionals all over the country. From Boston to Silicon Valley, professionals say to me that they want and need someone to talk with in a safe, confidential way. They prefer this person not be someone within their own organization. They feel safer if the person is independent of their organization. They want someone who understands their technical world but who also has listening, coaching and mentoring skills. They expect their privacy and confidentiality to be respected. Wayne and I offer all this to you.
We invite you to experience MiddleHaven services yourself. See the MiddleHaven section for service details. To schedule a consultation, call Eileen for an appointment at 816-746-8118 or email her at eileenstrider@worldnet.att.net.
