Bruce Eckel, MindView, Leaders' Forum 1999

I was skeptical. First of all, it's 7 days, which seems like a long time. Then there's this thing where we are all giving presentations. Hey, I give them all the time and like to do so, but a whole workshop of everybody else giving presentations? Then we show up and the schedule isn't even organized. What's this -- post-its on the wall? How low-tech can you get?

Of course, that was only the first of many revelations. Using post-its to allow and encourage adaptation (and to allow the presentations themselves to evolve), putting a structure into place and letting things happen, and the incredible value of gathering people who are reasonably like-minded and experienced (but not TOO like minded, haare haare, krishna krishna). The ideas just flowed, thick and fast, and I'm still absorbing them. However, it wasn't like some workshops where you absorb an impact or drink from a fire hose. For some reason, these ideas just seemed to move at the right rate for me to incorporate them.

When I gave presentations and put out ideas, I got volumes of valuable feedback from everyone -- it's a terrific place to try out new ideas. And I've had some fundamental shifts in the way I think about certain problems. All in all, an exceptional experience.
