Powerful Leadership Tools Workshop

An in-house 3-day workshop brought to you by Strider & Cline, Inc. Created and conducted by Wayne and Eileen Strider

What is a leader to do when an individual responds in totally unexpected ways? Or when the leader is stuck and confused by his or her own feelings and behaviors? Things can go awry among people engaged in technical work-when there is a crisis…when there is a difficult transition to make…when stresses emerge ...or tempers flare...or uncertainties arise ...or self-doubts fester ...or when the usual theories, tools, and techniques do not work.

What's needed in these situations is powerful leadership-leadership that acknowledges the needs of the leader, the needs of other individuals, and the realities of the current situation. The current situation includes the organization's goals, capabilities, culture, and the business environment within which it operates. The current situation may also be called the context. Powerful leadership addresses directly human stresses, tempers, uncertainties, and self-doubts instead of avoiding them or pretending they don't exist.

Adapted from Wayne's book, Powerful Project Leadership, this workshop can benefit anyone whose work involves interacting with others when things go awry.

Workshop Goal
Participants will learn concrete, implementable tools and techniques that will help them manage their challenging leadership situations back in the workplace.

Workshop Content
Powerful Leadership Tools will provide tools and techniques to help you keep yourself connected to all your inner resources even when you feel overwhelmed by circumstances. You'll gain insight into what to do during those stomach-churning times when you want to run away and hide. Like when:

  • You get negative feedback from your boss, peers, and employees.
  • You confront others about not getting the support you need from them.
  • Your needs are in conflict with others' needs such as your boss, peers, and employees.
  • You feel overwhelmed by others or circumstances.

Powerful Leadership Tools will help you understand why others behave as they do-and provide techniques that you can use to be better understood. You will become more accomplished at navigating sensitive situations such as:

  • Working with a boss or customer whose expectations seem to be constantly changing
  • Preparing work groups to change and adapt to new ways of doing their work
  • Dealing with vendors who aren't meeting contractual obligations
  • Leading others without having to tell them what to do

Powerful Leadership Tools will help you appreciate the influence the current situation has on us all, and in turn, the influence we have on the current situation. You will learn how to use your awareness of the current situation to evaluate what you and your organization are doing. For example, these tools will help you:

  • Recognize culture clashes among organizational groups and be able to articulate them in creative and productive ways.
  • Recognize when things are off track and know what to do to get them back on track.
  • Give and get more useful information.
  • Reduce risk and build your team's or organization's confidence in their plan.

The Workshop Leaders
Wayne and Eileen Strider have spent many years studying, practicing, and helping others learn powerful leadership tools. They have taught these tools to hundreds of leaders--in public workshop settings, conference seminars, at their annual Leaders' Forum, and during their consulting engagements.

They have experience in industry sectors such as insurance, financial services, aerospace, higher education, state government, computer hardware and software manufacturing, and biotech. They have worked with large and small companies, privately held and publicly traded companies, start ups, and not-for-profit companies. Their backgrounds include management roles in technology organizations, project management, human resources development, and organization development. The significant depth and breadth of their experience enables them to ask the right questions, elicit underlying issues, assemble critical information, and quickly distill key work and interpersonal issues. Each is a highly skilled facilitator with over 15 years experience conducting experiential learning.
